Will Smith On Obama Role: “If Ordered… I Will Do My Duty As An American”

At the London premier of his new movie “Seven Pounds,” Will Smith spoke about playing President-elect Barack Obama in a movie about his life story. The Daily Telegraph has the story, saying that Smith has “staked the claim” to the role.

“If I am ordered by my commander in chief to star in a film about him, I will do my duty as an American,” he said, beaming.

He said he would be an “eyewitness to history” when he attends the impending inauguration of US President-elect Barack Obama.

Will Smith has said that he wants to play Obama in the past, claiming that his ears make him a shoo-in for the job. Michelle Obama has also named Smith as her celebrity crush, which certainly can’t hurt his chances.
